Why tell your school about us?
Our interactive life skills talks and programmes (suited to the individual needs of each school: aimed at children, parents, or educators) inform and empower participants to start making wise choices, based on sound decision making and strong values, pertaining to the different challenges addressed in each workshop.
The Life Talk books are a much needed addition to each classroom equipping pupils, teachers and counsellors with tools to find their own solutions to the challenges being faced.
Win your Tug-of-Parenting and help your children to win their Tug-of-Teens by making sure that the values and messages adopted at school are the same in the home. Let’s all pull together to create a great tomorrow for our youth!
How does the forum work?
The Life Talk Forum is run by Izabella Little-Gates, author of the Life Talk books, Directors Sally Thorp and the team. Input comes from parents, teenagers, and a network of experts comprising: psychologists, counsellors, principals, teachers, career guidance specialists, experts in drug and alcohol abuse, and other expertise that may be required. Newsletters are produced regularly, summarizing the latest challenges that have come up and providing input from experts.
Talks and workshops are conducted for teens, educators and parents, and awareness building initiatives are run such as the Life Talk Tug-of-War and Table Tuesdays (click on the links to find out more).
Izabella and her team appear frequently on TV, radio and in the print media, and provide input on specific issues, challenges and helpful areas. Life Talk works on many joint awareness-building initiatives with individuals and organisations that share our vision!
Programmes and talks can be arranged on request.
the life talk forum's objectives:
- Raise awareness and stimulate thought about challenges, choices, consequences and solutions.
- Minimize preventable distress currently experienced by many teens and young adults resulting from hasty decision making that is often based on lack of knowledge and not taking consequences into account.
- Change behaviour in certain instances, in the interest of creating a more stable and content society, steering away from distress-inducing lifestyles.
- Highlight solutions through solution-focused interventions.
- Galvanize society into taking action against challenges or activities that lead to heartachesuch as teen binge-drinking, drug abuse, promiscuity, crime, HIV/AIDS.
- Make values ‘cool’ and encourage our youth tomake wise choices and to take responsibility for their lives – thereby leading to a life that’s smoother, happier, successful and fulfilling.
The Life Talk Forum’s mission is to: raise awareness about the issues and challenges faced by teens; focus on solutions; trigger change where necessary; and to help create happy, successful and fulfilled youth guided by sound values.
Our Primary Goal: to galvanize teens and parents to ‘pull’ together to address the various challenges.
